EMMA NORFOLK
Durham University
Graduated 2006
When I started I was not disappointed. The first few weeks are intense and it's easy to feel overwhelmed, but there is a great support system here and it doesn't take long to get your feet under the table and start doing some real, productive work. My mentor was invaluable, dealing with my endless questions and total inexperience, and nine months on is still is a great source of help when I need it.
Looking back I have absolutely no regrets about joining DC. The job is challenging and constantly changing, but most of all it is the people I work with that make the company what it is. Everyone is incredibly capable and I have total confidence in my peers and superiors. It is refreshing to know that everyone is working towards the same goals, and trying to do the right thing even if it is not necessarily the easy thing. There is a lot of integrity here.
Not that it is all about work! There is a great social culture at DC which is constantly nurtured by morale trips, company outings, after work drinks, and lunchtime sports. It has helped me make some great friends amongst my colleagues. If you are not going to be content to settle for 'ok', then I would thoroughly recommend applying. DC will support and challenge you, and you will not look back.
