Administration Tools

SNAP-IX provides extensive, easy-to-use administration and diagnostics features to aid

  • initial configuration of the system and subsequent modifications
  • run-time management of the system's users and resources
  • system monitoring and problem determination
  • network management, with support for cooperation with NetView.

These facilities are provided by the Motif graphical and command-line administration programs and by the Service Point Command Facility. All of these tools provide access to a unified set of administration commands, so the same function can be accessed by a choice of methods.

SNAP-IX administration is totally dynamic: changes or additions to the system's configuration take effect immediately, without the user having to stop and restart the system.

The node provides inherently dynamic configuration as it learns about other resources in the network. This reduces the amount of information that has to be configured at each SNAP-IX system.
