Data Connection's Optical MPLS Experience

Data Connection is the leading supplier of optical MPLS software. This is supported by our continuous involvement throughout the development of the standards.

  • We are extremely active in the standardization of optical MPLS, including co-authorship and contributions to many of the IETF drafts and OIF specifications.

  • The first GMPLS specification was the MPL(ambda)S drafts from Calient Networks and others in 2000. These became the GMPLS drafts during 2001. We developed the very first GMPLS software in the world, working with Calient. (Calient also wrote the original LMP spec.)

  • In early 2001, we extended our GMPLS software to support OIF UNI. In June 2001 the OIF had a UNI demo at SuperComm. Half of the 22 devices in that demo used our software. This was the first portable UNI software stack.

  • Our GMPLS customers today include all the major optical vendors including Alcatel-Lucent, CIENA, Corvis, NEC, Siemens, and several large Asian OEMs.

  • Our LMP software was the first portable implementation of LMP available. It includes IETF and OIF UNI support.

  • We participated in the OFC demo of this function in March 2003, together with several of our customers.

Optical MPLS Solutions

Data Connection's MPLS and IP Routing products support both OIF and GMPLS architectures. These products can be supplied individually or as an integrated optical control plane for OIF UNI-C, UNI-N and NNI. See Integrated Control Plane Solutions for further details.

DC-RSVP

DC-RSVP fully supports RFC3474, GMPLS and OIF UNI and NNI extensions.

DC-OSPF

DC-OSPF fully supports optical environments with a range of extensions, including draft-ietf-ccamp-ospf-gmpls-extensions. We also provide a method for you to add other features to DC-OSPF. For example, you can add new optical link constraints that can be flooded by DC-OSPF.

DC-OSPF includes a CSPF component to calculate constraint-based source routes. This can calculate primary and back-up routes. It can use the extra optical link constraints that you add to DC-OSPF.

DC-LMP

DC-LMP provides integrated configuration of optical links. It supports the requirements of both OIF UNI-C and UNI-N operation.
